How have you shown: Kindness, Resilience, Respect and Thankfulness this week?
This week at Thomas Coram
This week we have been busy completing the Year 4 multiplication check and other assessments across the school. The children have been fantastic and I know sometimes assessments can cause some anxiety for children, but they are really useful for us as teachers to understand where the gaps are and to cater to the children's needs. Next Friday (20th), the children will all bring home their test papers so that you can see the types of questions they were asked and how they did on the assessments. I think it is really important that the children understand their scores and look back at the papers, which we will do in school, so that they can see where to improve next time. No one is perfect and we all make mistakes, it is about us learning from those mistakes and striving to improve each time. Next week, we have our celebrating love week, which will be a really important week to celebrating all things love and look at the diverse world we live in. I believe it is vital to teach the children about love and how love may look different for everyone. I am really looking forward to seeing what the children do next week. Have a wonderful weekend.
Worship
On Monday, Father Stuart came in to lead worship on St Helena and looked at determination and how we can be determined in life. On Tuesday, Mrs Bruguier led our singing worship and today we celebrated our wonderful stars of the week.

Important Information

 Respecting school property
We would really appreciate it if you could take some time to speak to your child(ren) about respecting school property. We have many issues with the toilets across all the year groups. Recent examples of vandalism include toilets being blocked with whole toilet rolls or pieces of wood. Sinks being blocked with toilet rolls and taps left on leading to flooding and paint being peeled off the walls. I am sure you agree with me that this is not acceptable and makes for an unpleasant environment for everyone.

Message from Eco Council
Thomas Coram Eco council are pleased to share that next week we are having a walk to school week. We want to encourage you to walk, cycle, scoot or park and stride as much as you can.
We will be taking a travel survey on Thursday which is also Clean air day. We understand that not everyone can walk to school but it really does make a difference to the pollution and congestion outside the school gates.  Thank you
If anyone would like to make a poster to encourage pupils to use alternative ways to travel to school we would love to see it. Please give it to your class Eco council member to bring to our meeting.
We would also like to promote some local walking and cycling routes for you to try at the weekends and in the holidays.

Dacorum Family Support
We have arranged for Jan Nethercoat from Darorum Family Support to come and speak to TC parents around the theme of anxiety and the impact that it has on pupils' attendance. Like many schools we are seeing an increase in the number of children who are unable to attend school completely or for whom attendance is a real barrier for them. This is open to all TC parents and advanced sign-up is not necessary. Please come in via the main school reception.

Date: Wednesday 25th June

Time: 2:30pm - 3:20pm

Author Visit - Nadia Finer Thursday 1st July
We’re thrilled to share that author Nadia Finer will be visiting our school on Tuesday 1 July to talk about her book, Quiet Riot.
Quiet Riot challenges the idea that shyness is something to be "fixed" and instead celebrates the successes of softly spoken trailblazers—from athletes and writers to scientists and activists. Featuring 40 real-life stories, this book reassures children that they don’t need to change who they are to achieve great things—they just need to embrace their own quiet power.
During her visit, Nadia will speak to the children about what it feels like to be shy and how to overcome the fears that can sometimes hold us back. She will also be sharing powerful stories of shy superheroes—from Marcus Rashford and Taylor Swift to Lionel Messi and Beatrix Potter—proving that quiet voices can make a big impact.
 Order a Signed Copy! ✨
If you’d like to purchase a special hardback copy of Quiet Riot for your child, and have it signed by the author, please place your order by Monday 30 June using this link

Carers Week
This week has been Carers Week.  Hertfordshire Council are celebrating the work and support that our young carers provide for their families.  However, The Carers Trust estimates that 1 in 5 school-aged children could be young carers. Yet in Hertfordshire, the January 2025 School Census:
    • Found that 60% of schools reported no known young carers
    • Identified only 1,483 young carers out of approx. 200,000 pupils
  • The 2021 Census recorded just 2,525 young carers aged 5–17
These figures show many young carers remain hidden and unsupported.  Carers in Hertfordshire will offer an assessment and further support.  Please get in touch: young.carers@carersinherts.org.uk

DENS Woodland Trail – Saturday 21st June, Berkhamsted Castle
A scenic community-friendly walk through nature, choose from a 5 or 10-mile walk (or run) through beautiful woodland and countryside. Whether walking as a family, with friends, or enjoying some alone time outdoors, whilst supporting a local charity.
It’s a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy the outdoors, take on a challenge, and help make a difference in their community. Every step taken will directly support local people facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion.
