This Week
First full week back - complete! We have had a busy and exciting first week back, with Year 6 completing their baseline assessments ready to prepare them for their SATs assessments next week. Although it can feel a little daunting, it is a baseline for us to gauge where the children are and helps prepare them for next year. The more practise they have, the more relaxed they will feel next year. Year 3 - 5 have also been busy working completing their first English and Maths unit and getting to know the rest of the curriculum. Year 6 have an exciting week next week and we are excited for their PGL journey and all of the fun they will have. Keep your fingers crossed for little rain! As a staff body, we also had some excellent training this week on discrimination and anti racism and we are going to be looking through our curriculum this year to ensure that we are including diversity and anti racism across all subjects. We also have some exciting news for Team TC and would like to say congratulations to Mrs Matthews as she announces her first baby, due in January. I hope everyone has a restful and peaceful weekend.
Worship
On Monday, Father Stuart started his first worship for the year looking at the story of Genesis and being kind to one another. In singing assembly, we did a rhythm body percussion to the Kung Fu Panda theme tune and sang 'Back to Life ' by Soul to Soul and  'My God is a great big God.' Today, we celebrated all the values that have been shown this week in our Values in Action. We also recapped our new SHINE expectations and I asked the children to explain any they had shown this week.

The road to £15k!

This year we’re trying to raise £15k to fund a bank of Chromebooks. Noone has handed over a massive cheque yet, so we carry on with our fundraising.

Our first event to get us to our goal is the Family WhoDunnit!

Come along with your family to solve clues to find out who stole the famous Berko Bell. Why did they do it? How did they do it? Only the smartest will discover the truth 😘

Friday 25th Sept, all-family event (no sitters needed!), 6pm – 8.30pm.

And whilst you’re in social admin mode, grab your Dress Down Annual Pass. The feeling of having it sorted and not scrabbling for the pound coins is sooooo good.

Please see the link here https://www.add-vance.org/parents/courses/ to book on to one of the many free courses they have on offer this term.

Blessing of the Backpacks (and a picnic):

On Sunday 13th September as part of our regular 9.30am Sunday Service we'll be inviting the schoolchildren of the parish to come forward to have their school backpacks/satchels blessed to mark the start of the new school year. All are very welcome to join us.

You can read more about this here: Blessing of the Backpacks - Diocese of Ely

After the service there will be a picnic at The Rectory (Rectory Lane, HP4 2DH) to which everyone is very welcome (weather permitting!).

20MPH Consultation for Berkhamsted and Northchurch

Hertfordshire County Council is currently running a public consultation on proposed additional 20mph speed limits in Berkhamsted and Northchurch.  Parent feedback is particularly valuable. The consultation aims to gather views on where lower speed limits may be appropriate to improve safety, encourage walking, wheeling and cycling, and reduce traffic noise.

The consultation is available at 20mph programme in Hertfordshire | Hertfordshire County Council and closes on Sunday 4 October 2026.
