 Black History Month

October 2023

October is Black History Month in the UK and a time to celebrate the contribution black people have made over the centuries in shaping the dynamic and diverse country we have today.

It is about celebrating and sharing knowledge; celebrating the contribution black people have made to freedoms, our culture and our society.

From books, musicians, artists, authors and scientists, there are many great individuals to celebrate.

On Tuesday 3 October, during Black History Month, we learnt how music can give people a voice to tell a story, to spread a message or to sing in protest.

The song is ‘So Strong’ by Labi Siffre. The song won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.

Listen to us singing here!

Labi Siffre is a British singer, songwriter and poet.
